IPL 2027: Dates, Auction and What It Means for Bangladesh Fans
The 2027 Indian Premier League is expected to run from March to May 2027. The BCCI's long-term calendar, published in 2024, pencilled in 14 March to 30 May, but as of 6 October 2026 the exact dates have not been confirmed. Before the season comes a mini auction in Goa in December 2026, the last auction of the current cycle.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the champions. They beat Gujarat Titans by five wickets in the 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 31 May, their second title in a row.
Bangladesh players and the IPL
Mustafizur Rahman was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 9.20 crore at the December 2025 auction, but KKR released him on 3 January 2026 after an instruction from the BCCI. Whether any Bangladesh player is picked at the December 2026 auction is the first thing to watch for fans here.
Can you watch the IPL in Bangladesh?
The 2026 season was hard to follow from Bangladesh. On 5 January 2026 the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting ordered the IPL telecast stopped, and the rights holder JioStar ended its sub-licence with the Bangladeshi broadcaster T Sports over unpaid fees. On 28 March the new information minister said there was no restriction on showing the IPL. For 2027, no broadcaster in Bangladesh had announced rights as of 6 October 2026.
IPL start times in Bangladesh
India Standard Time is 30 minutes behind Bangladesh. The IPL's usual slots are 7:30 pm IST for evening games and 3:30 pm IST for the afternoon game on double-header days, which makes them 8:00 pm and 4:00 pm in Bangladesh. An evening match usually finishes close to midnight here.
How the season works
Ten teams play 14 league games each, 70 in all, and the top four reach the playoffs. First and second meet in Qualifier 1, and the winner goes straight to the final. Third and fourth play the Eliminator. The loser of Qualifier 1 gets a second chance against the Eliminator winner in Qualifier 2, and that winner plays the final. The league has used this format since it grew to ten teams in 2022.
Bangladeshi players have lifted the trophy before: Shakib Al Hasan with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012 and 2014, and Mustafizur Rahman with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016, the season he was named the IPL's emerging player.
How we cover the IPL
We treat the IPL as a season hub: the dates, the auction, the playoffs and the final, not ball-by-ball coverage of all 70-odd games. Our match centre stays focused on Bangladesh, the Asia Cup and ICC events; the big one for fans here in 2027 is the Asia Cup at home in June. Looking for bookmakers that cover the league?
